strawberry fields.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Riverford Organic has changed my life! Before getting our weekly veg boxes I never recognized that the food we eat is at it's best when eaten within its respective season.  Berries grow best in the summer; root veggies grow best in the winter; and so on. Not to mention that England has the widest range of berries I have ever known! Have you ever heard of a damson berry? I mean, honestly! It's phenomenal. I have found a new love for food!

Since realizing this, I just could NOT wait for the great British summer for, yep, you guessed it, berry picking! Hours of google searching later, we found this "PYO" (Pick-your-own farm) in the Teesside area. Turns out, it's not too far from where we got married!

If you're in the Teesside area, I recommend you make a little visit. We honestly cannot get any more local than this farm! A full cardboard handled box is £10 and a full plastic punnet is about £3-4. Not too bad when compared to what you pay in the grocery stores, only these were so much better! They were absolutely fresh & delicious! Not to mention we made some jam the following day, which was a huge hit with John's gran. Thank you Grandma Hilary!

This cardboard punnet was 1.9kg and cost about £9.00.

What a wonderful day! The whole family got involved. After the picking, we came home and had a BBQ. I really couldn't have asked for a better summer day.

OH YEAH... and here's our homemade jam. I even set aside the baby strawberries and left them whole. I say, whoever finds them will have good luck!
