HAPPY LABOR DAY!

A total US holiday, I know, but it's a good one. Yesterday we went to the beach at South Padre Island. My memory of this place was very dark and grim, partly because I was traumatized- twice, but still it was not all sunshine and butterflies.

When I was a child, my dad used to come into our house asking us all if we wanted to go to the beach, "YEAH!!" we would all say with much enthusiasm. So, we would pack up our little bags; change into our swimsuits; grab our towels; make sandwiches; and then we were off. Upon our arrival at the beach we would roll down our windows and he would drive all along the beach. I remember thinking, "Oh, he's just trying to find the perfect spot." However, he never stopped. He would drive all along saying, "Well, there you go. THE BEACH." Then turn around and drive back home.

Who does that?? My father.

This time, I'm so grown up now. John & I suit up, have dinner at Daddy's, and then relax on the coast. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was yesterday. I have never seen the water look this blue! In the past we'd find oil spill globs and dead fish. [Red tide. Who knew.] But this time, it was gorgeous! I mean, just look at the pictures. I wish we could've stayed out ALL DAY.
